memorial of the Immaculate Heart of BVM: Gn 27: Rebecca and Jacob: de Montfort's "True Devotion"

after reading St. Louis-Marie de Montfort's "True Devotion to the Blessed Virgin", I see why the first reading for the memorial of Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary is taken from Genesis 27. The text of "True Devotion" is available online for free at many places, among them:

Immaculate Conception.
Men's Warehouse lady-clerk: I know. That's my birthday. (points to the
other employee) That's his birthday, too.

Mother Mary is *all over* this couple's wedding   :)

good ideas from Youth2000 for SFC

The Youth 2000 I attended was geared mostly for confirmation students.

It was held in a gym. They put up an altar for mass in one end of the hall.

They set up "the burning bush" (the wood planks for candles and the monstrance) in the middle of the gym.

First, There was a talk about holy mass and transubstantiation. That, in the upcoming mass, Jesus will make himself truly present in the disguise of bread and wine. And that one of the consecrated hosts will be displayed in a monstrance atop the burning bush.

Then the mass begins.

In the end of mass, the priest exposes the blessed sacrament and brings Jesus on top of the burning bush.

Then there was a talk about adoration.

And then they go into praise and worship, with Jesus' Real Presence literally in their midst.

The blessed sacrament remained exposed for the whole weekend, while the attendants listen to talks about chastity, Mary and the rosary, universal call to holiness and specific religious vocations, etc, interspersed with praise and worship.

HTC Incredible's Contacts Storage ballooned to 108MB...

HTC Incredible's Contacts Storage 2.2 ballooned to 108MB, and caused Android to keep giving me "low on space" notifications. After a factory reset, it's now back to ~21MB (rising steadily... memory leak?)

V. Our Father...
R. Give us this day...

7 Angelic Salutations (Hail Mary)

V. Glory be to the Father...
R. As it was...

O my Jesus, forgive us our sins. Save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those in most need of Thy mercy!

V. In the second sorrow let us contemplate...
At the end of the seventh sorrow say:

V. Let us pray for the intentions of the Holy Father, in order to obtain the holy indulgences
(Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be)

V. Hail Holy Queen,
R. Mother of Mercy...

The Holy See has granted to the members and to all the faithful in some way linked to Miles Christi, the same indulgences granted to the standard Rosary.

The Litany of the Mater Dolorosa may be recited at the end of the Rosary.

The Seven Sorrows of Our Lady
  1. The Prophecy of Holy Simeon.
  2. The Flight of the Holy Family into Egypt.
  3. The Loss of the Child Jesus in the Temple.
  4. The Encounter of Jesus with His Blessed Mother as He Carries the Cross.
  5. The Crucifixion and Death of our Lord Jesus Christ and Mary at the Foot of the Cross.
  6. The Descent from the Cross, and Jesus in the Arms of His Most Blessed Mother.
  7. The Burial of our Lord, and the Loneliness of the Blessed Virgin.

Some Catholic ideas for the aspiring hacker

(Please release it under BSD and/or AGPL license, considering Creative Commons for the data.)  :)
  • Make a GMaps mash-up of saints over time, a la Trailmapping. Your test cases:
    • St. Francis of Asisi: Italy, Jerusalem
    • St. Ignatius of Loyola: Spain, Jerusalem
    • St. Francis Xavier: all over the world
    • should have a checkbox / filter for the Blesseds.
    • Source: start backward in time, from recent canonizations.
  • A GMaps + GeoDjango mash-up of areas of Dioeceses and numbers of Bishops over time.
    • Should handle titular sees (Auxiliary (Arch-)Bishops)
  • IconNotes, a la Flickr Notes (image map hover tool-tip):
    • San Damiano cross
    • Coat of arms of Bishops and Dioceses.
    • would be nice if it supports more than squares, e.g. the Franciscan Tau.
  • Again, a trailmapping-like mashup for procession routes.
  • Update masstimes.org to follow GMaps and GCalendar.
  • Mass intention tracker:
    • should handle insertions (urgent prayer requests)
  • Lector schedule
    • should handle contact info, "which mass do I go to".
    • should handle "children's mass, kids are reading".
    • for days of multiple readings, the presider can login and pre-rsvp which reading he wants.
    • allow lector to login and "ask for substitute", and for people to substitute.
  • Cantor schedule, in a similar spirit as the above.
  • Music director software:
    • Use lilypond for typesetting.
    • editable electronic sheet, plus limited annotation (change half notes to full notes, change pitch, add interlude, etc)
    • Have a "choir version" and "congregation version" and "instrumentalist version", and "soprano only", with MIDI/mp3 output.
    • Blog/RSS of selection for the mass.

HOWTO Install cx_Oracle on Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid) 64bit

Assuming we have installed Oracle Instant Client 11,

  1. Browse to homepage of cx_Oracle.
  2. Download the "CentOS 5 x86_64 RPM (Oracle 11g, Python 2.5)" (Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid) by default carries Python 2.5).
  3. Install the RPMs using alien. For example, at the time of this writing:
    sudo alien -i cx_Oracle-5.0-11g-py25-1.x86_64.rpm

To test,
python -c 'import cx_Oracle'
should "just return" without errors.

HOWTO Install Oracle Instant Client 11 on Ubuntu 8.10 (intrepid) 64bit

  1. Browse to Instant Client for Linux x86-64 download page. (At the time of this writing, the "Linux AMD64 (32-bit and 64-bit)" only provides version 10).
  2. Download the "Instant Client Package - Basic" RPM (e.g. oracle-instantclient11.1-basic-11.1.0.7.0-1.x86_64.rpm). You might also need "SQL*Plus (-sqlplus)" and "SDK (-devel)".
  3. Install the RPMs using alien. For example, at the time of this writing:
    sudo alien -i oracle-instantclient11.1-basic-11.1.0.7.0-1.x86_64.rpm
  4. Create
    /etc/ld.so.conf.d/oracle-instantclient11.1-basic.conf
    containing:
    /lib
    /usr/lib/oracle/11.1/client64/lib

  5. sudo ldconfig

You might need to install libaio1.
